Still Selling Netherweave On the AH? Don’t.
Written by Brian on April 26, 2008 – 12:12 pm -I remember back when BC was released, Netherweave Cloth used to sell for 5-7 gold per stack. There were tons of tailors leveling up, and everybody needed to make their Spellstrike, Whitemend, Shadoweave, or whatever.
Since then, the cloth supply seems to have exploded (thanks Shattered Sun dailies), leading the price to plummet. On my server, the price of Netherweave Cloth has tanked to around 3 gold per stack. At that point, it’s no longer worth the expense and trouble of auctioning the cloth… there’s a much better option.
Why Not Auction?
Is it a lot of trouble to auction off cloth? Perhaps not too much. However, if you gather up 10-20 stacks in a few hours of play, that’s a decent amount of time spent auctioning and re-auctioning them until they sell.
In addition, you incur a 5% fee each time you sell something on the Auction House. If you’re selling a stack of cloth for 3 gold, you’re only getting 2 gold, 85 silver. Add in the lost deposit on any stacks that don’t sell (24 silver for 12 hours), and you’ll probably net a profit of a little less than 2 gold, 80 silver per stack.
The Alternative? First Aid!
Instead of auctioning those stacks of cloth, turn them into Heavy Netherweave Bandage. A stack of Heavy Netherweave Bandage will vendor for 6 gold.
It takes two stacks of Netherweave Cloth to make one stack of Heavy Netherweave Bandage. Therefore, you’re earning 3 gold per stack of cloth. If the going rate on the AH for a stack of cloth is 3 gold - you’re making more since you don’t have to pay the Auction House fee!
There is a bit of a time investment as you have to convert all of the cloth to bandages. Creating a bandage is a 3 second cast time, so it will take roughly a minute of continuous crafting to convert 40 cloth into 20 bandages.
I find the best thing to do is make bandages any time I go afk - use the bathroom, grab a drink, or tab out to read something. If you keep the cloth from stockpiling in your bags, it won’t take much time to craft the bandages and you can easily sell them for maximum profit.
So remember - avoid the AH. Turn your Netherweave Cloth into Heavy Netherweave Bandage and vendor it off. Same money, less hassle.
