Out Running in the Rain
Written by Brian on October 15, 2009 – 12:00 pm -Last weekend, I had a couple tough running workouts. Come Tuesday, I was beat, so I took a night off. I rested on Wednesday, too… since I went straight from work to class and didn’t get home until around 8 PM. While I’ve gone running after class in the past, I wasn’t up to it.
Thursday, it was time to hit the pavement. Too bad, it was also time for cold and rain to pelt New Jersey. In case you haven’t seen the weather forecast for the New York metropolitan area, it ain’t pretty. When I went out, it was about 40 degrees Fahrenheit and there was a steady rain going.
That might keep some people inside, but not me. I threw on a long sleeve shirt over my tee-shirt, and out the door. I went for a nice 5k steady state run. I went at a moderate pace, and although I didn’t bring my stopwatch I’d guess I ran the full 5k in about 26 or 27 minutes. My hands were freezing, but otherwise I felt great. Breathing was steady, heart rate was slightly elevated, and I finished without feeling too worn out. It’s nice to run on two days rest.
I’ll be taking tomorrow (Friday night) off, since I’ll be at the high school football game until about 10 o clock or so. But come Saturday, it’s time for a hard workout. I think it’ll be time for another repeat workout, and I’ll run either 400m or 800m repeats to equal a 5k run.
